Fred Allen Flora, 82, passed from this life to a heavenly one on Monday, May 18, 2020, after a long illness, with his family by his side.
Born in Poplar Plains on February 11, 1938, he was the son of George W. Flora and Mary Hannah Lynam Flora.
Fred was a member of the Flemingsburg Christian Holiness Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Chemical Division from 1961-1963. He loved God, his family, and his country. Fred was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a lifelong farmer which he loved. In 2006, he (along with Estill and Duke Flora) was awarded Ag Leader of the Year.
Fred is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Eula Mae Ellison Flora; his two sons, Michael (Shawn) Flora of Hillsboro and David (Ann) Flora of Flemingsburg; his daughter, Laura (Chilton) Ng of Athens, GA. His grandchildren include Raechael Flora, Maeghaen (Zack) Hunter, Alexander Ng, and Elizabeth Ng; one step-grandson, Justin (Autumn) Lewis; and two step-great-grandchildren, Joanna and Asher Lewis. He is also survived by his brother, Tommie Flora of Denver, CO; his sister, Lela Mae Call of Lexington; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Reeves and Justine Gulley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Clyde, Estill, and Morgan Flora; two sisters, Geneva Owens and Ruby Jolley; and a special brother-in-law, Goebel Reeves.
Private funeral services are being cared for by Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.
Fred will be laid to rest in Longview Cemetery in Bethel.
