Harold Wayne Capps, 75, passed away on July 23, 2022. He was born in Montgomery County on Dec. 14, 1946 to the late Mack and Opal Clavell Capps.
Wayne was a retired Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of the Kentucky Army National Guard, where he proudly served for 37 years. While attending Morehead State University in 1970, CSM Capps was drafted into the US Army. Upon completion of his active-duty tour in Vietnam, he returned to complete his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science. During his time in the military, Wayne served as a strong leader, who earned the respect of many. After retiring at age 60, Wayne continued to work for the Department of Military Affairs in Lexington for 10 more years. Besides being an admired mentor, Wayne was a loving husband and father, and a humble man. He enjoyed gardening, loved dogs, and would rather spend time with his family than anything else in the world.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wilma Perkins Capps. Other survivors include his three children Lisa (Carlos) Padron, Jimmy (Jennifer) Capps, and April (Jonathan) Tabor; one sister, Helen Minton; 11 grandchildren: Justin and Ella Tabor, Shanea and Logan Capps, Fancy, Ryan, Ronald Boyd, Carlotta and Ana Padron, and William and Megan Neal. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Tom Capps, Earl Capps, and Stanley Robert Capps; and two sisters: Peg Livingood and Mary Catherine Huffman.
Services will be conducted at Boone-Nickell Funeral home in Flemingsburg, KY on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 1PM with sister Gail Skaggs officiating.
Wayne will be laid to rest with military honors at Longview Cemetery in Bethel, KY.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on the day Friday at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home.
