Jean Clark Obituary

Jean Dolores Clark, 89, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Bluegrass Care and Rehabilitation in Lexington, Kentucky.

Known by many as “Aunt Jean”, she was a very simple, humble, pure hearted, very blessed and cherished person to those who knew and loved her.

Her life started on September 26, 1928, in Hillsboro, Kentucky, the first born of two daughters to Hunter and Gracie Clark. Growing up in the country, she had many animals from rabbits, cats, and dogs, to a pet billy goat named Nanny that she and her little sister Betty Jo would dress up in clothes and shoes.

Aunt Jean was a caregiver for her mother, Gracie Emmons Clark until her passing in 1979.  She then moved to Lexington, Kentucky to live with her sister, Betty Jo Clark Colliver and her husband Bill Colliver and their daughter Cindy. Aunt Jean always knew where everything was at all times, from shoes to the latest copy of the newspaper. If you could not find something, Aunt Jean was the go-to person. She loved the outdoors, gardening with her sister and walking around the neighborhood. She would even walk to the beauty parlor every Thursday.  She greatly enjoyed travelling to Springfield, Missouri, to visit her grandnephews, Will and Logan, especially during the holidays.

One thing most did not know  about Aunt Jean was her knack for numbers. If you told her your birthday and year you were born, she immediately could tell you which day of the week you were born. She made the best fried potatoes, stovetop popcorn and tuna fish sandwiches, especially for her niece and friends after school.

Aunt Jean always saw the bright side in everyone and every situation even during the darkest moments.  Aunt Jean could always find a blessing.

She loved going to church and reading her bible.  She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gracie Mae (Emmons) and Hunter Clark; her paternal grandparents, Anna (Hunter) and John A. Clark; her maternal grandparents, Lillie Mae (Sprout) and Perry Emmons; along with her grandnephew, William “Will” Thomas Pearson.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Jo (Clark) and Bill Colliver of Lexington, KY; her niece, Cindy (Colliver) and Tom Pearson M.D.; and her grandnephew, Logan Pearson of Springfield, Missouri.

Graveside services will be held at the Fleming County Cemetery on Thursday, September 13th, at 2:00 p.m., with Father Eric Boelsher of Saint Charles Catholic Church in Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Reverend Mac Colliver of Nicholasville, Kentucky.
