John William “J.W.” Hamm, 94, of Wallingford, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Fleming County Hospital. He was the widower of Anna Rose Doyle Hamm.
Born in Fleming County on September 2, 1927, he was the son of the late William Arthur Hamm and the late Lottie Mae Million Hamm.
J.W. worked for the state highway department for 26 years and was a farmer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
He is survived by his son, Randy Hamm and wife Peggy; his daughter-in-law, Jeannette Hamm; his nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Hipply, Rebecca (Kevin) Morrow, Jason (Tami) Hamm, Matt (Sadie) Hamm, Tara Couch, Randi (Casey) Reeves, Amanda (Billy) Smith, and Jamie Hamm; his 16 great grandchildren; his caregiver, Brenda Mineer; along with many extended family members and friends.
In addition to Anna Rose, his wife of 59 years, and his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Monroe Hamm; and his great granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Hipply.
The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Mitchell officiating.
J.W. will be laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 will be performing military rites.
Pallbearers include Jason Hamm, Matt Hamm, Dan Hipply, Kevin Morrow, Casey Reeves, Billy Smith, Brandon Hamm, Hunter Couch, Mason Couch, and Garrett Hipply.
Visitation will be 1 p.m., until the hour of service at 3 p.m., Sunday, at Boone-Nickell.
