Kathryn Johnson Obituary

Kathryn Barr Johnson, 77, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and Orlando, Florida, passed away at Baptist Health Lexington in Lexington, Kentucky, on December 1, 2020. Born in New York, New York, Kathie was the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Seymour) Barr.

Kathie earned a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She met Lucien Johnson in the fall of her junior year and it was love at first sight. They married in 1963 and began a 57-year partnership that served as a model of love and affection for their two children and five grandchildren.

In 1965, Kathie and Lucien moved to Orlando. In 2000, they established a second residence in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and soon considered Cedar Lake to be their home.

Mammaw, as her grandchildren called her, traveled all over the world. Her favorite adventures were a trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy and a family cruise to Alaska. Kathie spent countless hours sewing and cross stitching –scissors and thread were always nearby. She made custom dolls for family and friends and was a longtime member of the Greater Orlando Doll Club. Kathie also loved to read, a joy she passed along to her children and grandchildren.

The biggest sports fan in the family, Kathie wasn’t just a casual watcher – she knew all about the teams and their players. She was an avid tennis player for many years and enjoyed following the professional tennis tours. In addition to supporting her beloved UK Wildcats, Kathie spent countless hours at Little League, middle school and high school games cheering on kids and grandkids.

A member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Kathie attended Elizaville Christian Church in Flemingsburg. She is survived by her husband, Lucien; children Lucien III, and Jennifer (Scott) Williamson; grandchildren Lucien (Caroline), Erin, Sam, Phoebe and Griffin; and siblings Barbara Jung and Bruce Barr.

Kathie loved her family and friends fiercely and supported them unconditionally. Her loss leaves a void that will never be filled, but having her in our lives is a blessing we will cherish forever.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathie’s memory may be made to Elizaville Christian Church, 1872 Mockingbird Hill, Flemingsburg, KY 41041;First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, 106 E.
