Kathy Wheeler

Kathleen Castle “Kathy” Wheeler, 71, of Tilton in Fleming County, passed away early Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at her home, after battling cancer and other health conditions.

Born in Thealka, Kentucky in Johnson County on October 11, 1951, her father was the late Earnest “Crackerbill” Castle and her mother was the late Iva Jean Arms Castle.

Kathy was retired from Pioneer Trace Nursing Home after 16 years of service.  In her personal time she loved to read as well as tend to her garden and flower beds.  She also loved to fish and camp.  A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Kathy loved spending time with her family.  She also loved her church family and going to church with them.

Kathy is survived by two of her sons, Rufus Wheeler Jr. and Patrick Earnest Wheeler; her daughter, April Dawn Wheeler; her bonus daughter, Crystal Wheeler; her two granddaughters, Angel (Kyle) Tschaenn and Desiree (Nathan) Spivey; her grandson, Matthew Caudill;  her two great grandchildren, Allonaha Spivey and Aydian Spivey.  She is also survived by three of her brothers, Ralph (Dana) Castle, Glenn (Garnett) Castle, and Randy (Jennifer) Castle; her three sisters, Trish Reeves, Wanda Tackett, and Edith (Gary) Hill; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Wheeler Sr.; her son, Ronald Dean Wheeler; and three of her brothers, William Castle, Lee Roy Salyers, and Ronald David “Dave” Castle.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Sister Gail Skaggs officiating.

Kathy will be laid to rest in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Rufus Wheeler Jr., Patrick Wheeler, Kyle Tschaenn, Ralph Castle, Glenn Castle, and Randy Castle.  Honorary Pallbearers include Jason Duncan, Derick Salyer, Jamie Salyer, Ethan Duncan, and Kegan Duncan.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 22, at Boone-Nickell located at 150 West Water Street, Flemingsburg, Ky. 41041.
