Larry Dearing Obituary

Larry Eugene Dearing, 72, of Flemingsburg, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at his home. Larry was the son of the late Eugene & Helen Cropper Dearing.

Larry was a 1964 graduate of Fleming County High School. On March 16, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Porter. Larry served the City of Flemingsburg as Council Member and served as Fleming County’s District 3 Magistrate for 12 years. He served in the US Army Reserve’s 100th Division as a Drill Sergeant. He was employed by General Telephone Electric for 26 years and owned the By-Pass Car Wash for 30 years. He was a former employee of Stephens Trucking.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Favorite 581 of Ewing.

Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Porter Dearing; his two daughters, Tammy (Wally) Thomas and Shannon Dearing (Marty Littleton). He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Allie and Abbie Thomas; his aunt, Janet (Kenneth) Cropper Watson; his two siblings, Kenny (Marilyn) Dearing and Ann Higgins. His other survivors include his sister-in-law, Paula (Wayne) Bruner, his nieces and nephews, Lisa Higgins Gilkerson, Kelley Dearing Smith, Jamie Higgins, Leslie Dearing Litzler, Jerome Bruner, and Jordan Bruner; and his 11 great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his uncle, Elmer Cropper; his aunt, Ethel Cropper Jones; and his brother-in-law, James “Henry” Higgins.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2018, at the Flemingsburg Christian Church, 201 East Water Street with Rev. Tracy Parker and Rev. Greg Grimes officiating.

Larry will be laid to rest in Fleming County Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834.

Pallbearers include Jackie Boling, Jerome Bruner, Jordan Bruner, Sam Fizer, Jerry Jones, Jamie Higgins, Wally Thomas, and Marty Littleton.  Honorary Pallbearers include Donnie Carpenter, Pat Story, Dave McGlone, Joe Sanders, Wayne Grimes, Wayne Bruner, Rob Prater, Kelly Prater, Jerry Dixon, Tim Manning, Todd Manning, Kenny Souder, and Brenda Kay Brooks.

Visitation at the church will be Sunday, December 30th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Masonic rites will be observed at 7 p.m.

Donations can be made to Hospice of Hope (909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville KY 41056) or the charity of one’s choice.
