He also leaves behind his sister, Jennifer Rowe (Michael) of Taylor Mill, Ky.; his stepmother, Freda Mineer of Flemingsburg, his stepdad, Danny Carpenter (Karen) of Flemingsburg; his three stepsisters, Kristie Catching-Bellew (Austin) of Maysville, Gina Catching-Leet (Mike) of Maysville, and Becky McGinnis (Jamie) of Flemingsburg. Michael was a 1986 graduate of Fleming County High School, and was a United States Army veteran. After leaving Fleming County and the military, Michael found his home in Bear Creek, North Carolina. For the past 19 years, he served as an officer for the Chapel Hill Police Department in Chapel Hill, N.C., with plans to retire this August.
For those who knew Michael, he was proud to wear, and flaunt UK blue, especially in North Carolina. But, even more, family was very important to him, and his partner and son were his world. He was the happiest the last several years, and found his true calling in being Jagger’s Dad and biggest supporter. He found passion in volunteering and mentoring many kids through the Rising Pros Training AAU basketball program, and was an active volunteer within the community, always willing to help others.
