Tommy White Obituary

Shirley Thomas “Tommy” White, 77, of Cynthiana, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021, at the Hospice of Hope Center in Maysville. 

Born in Cynthiana on August 13, 1943, he was a devoted son to the late Shirley White and the late Anna Mae Wilson White.

A Vietnam Era veteran, Tommy proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves 1st Military Company Headquarters and Service Battalion 4th Force Service Support Group Reservist Force located in Lexington, KY for 30 years earning the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. He was a Life Member of the Marine Corps League Dan Daly Detachment located in Lexington, KY. He retired from Square D Manufacturing, Lexington, KY after 35 years. After his retirement, he worked part time at NAPA until December 2020.  He was an expert marksman and enjoyed shooting sporting clays with his friends. At various times throughout his life, he was a member of several skeet/trap clubs in Kentucky and Ohio. He was a Life Member of the NRA, a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and a member of the Elk Creek Hunt Club and Sporting Clays. Although not a member, he often shot at the Franklin County Sportsmen’s Club.He enjoyed drivingon his Harley Davidson 94 Electra Glide Classic motorcycle with his version of the “Road Hogs”, and especially when his wife was seated behind him.  His sanctuary was the family farm in Nicholas County where he enjoyed working and relaxing.Tommy was a special friend to the family of Franklin R. Sousley.  He was instrumental in raising funds and procuring the Franklin Sousley Iwo Jima Flag Raising Monument and Dedication Ceremony at the Elizaville Cemetery for Sousley’s family. He also assisted with the Harrison County Vietnam Veterans Monument at the Courthouse in Cynthiana. Tommy was a BSA Eagle Scout and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a faithful attendee of Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Carla Doyle White; his mother-in-law, Minnie Doyle; his sisters-in-law, Diane (Doug) Bowling and Miriam (Randy) Ishmael; his brother-in-law, Danny (Sherry) Doyle; his eight nieces and nephews, Erica (Brian) Sapp, Bryan (Amber) Ishmael, Chad (Michele) Bowling, Ben (Kathy) Ishmael, Blake Ishmael, Daniel Doyle, Toby Glover, and Dustyn Doyle.  He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews, Kennedy and Kooper Perkins, Emily and Ryder Sapp, Avah Bowling, Brynlee and Tate Ishmael, Karter, Kasen,  and Kashton Ishmael; family of Danny and Tressia Sampson; his special aunt, Clois White; his cousin, William Andy Wagoner; along with several extended family members and friends.

Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Lambert officiating.

Tommy will be laid to rest in Elizaville Cemetery.  Military rites will be performed by the David Rankin American Legion Post #257 and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honor Detail.

Pallbearers include Brian Sapp, Bryan Ishmael, Chad Bowling, Ben Ishmael, Blake Ishmael, Tim Sampson, Mark Sampson. Honorary pallbearers include Lloyd Duncan, Tim Hodges, Carl Bates, Ron Brown, Steve Eades, Stanley Jenkins, William Andy Wagoner, and Marion Waggoner.

Visitation will be 11 a.m., until the hour of service at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the church.

In compliance with state mandate, masks are required for those in attendance of all services.
