Vencil Eldridge, 95, of Flemingsburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.
The last of eight siblings, Vencil was born in Rowan County, KY on July 1, 1928. He grew up working on the family farm and in the general store operated by his father in Sharkey.
Vencil was deeply motivated by his faith, and he will always be remembered by his friends and family resting in his recliner with his Bible in his lap. He invested his life in service to his Lord, family, church, friends, neighbors, and country. He was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
After he returned from Korea, he joined his family in business at their Goodyear Tire and Gulf Oil gasoline service station. He and his brother Delmar would eventually open and operate a Chrysler dealership at Secrest Crossing beginning in 1964 where he would work until his retirement.
Vencil served as a director for Peoples Bank for 30 years and also served on the Fleming County School Board. He was an active member of the Mount Pisgah Christian Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, spending winters with his wife, Delores, in Florida, and the White Park cattle on his farm.
Vencil is survived by his son, Kent (Kristy) Eldridge; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Eldridge; his two honorary daughters, Tammy Kinder and Vicki Stephens; his four grandchildren, Kaleb (Stacey) Eldridge, Jacob (Angela) Eldridge, Chad (Rachel) Eldridge, and Dalton Blevins; his six great grandchildren, Aiden, Flynn, Alida, Eliana, Azalea, and Leo Vencil; along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Vencil was preceded in death in 2011 by his cherished wife of 58 years and loving mother to his two children, Delores Craft Eldridge; his son, Greg Eldridge; his parents, Hiram and Bertha; and his seven siblings, Delmar Eldridge, Dessie Cate, Sadie Tranbarger, Roy Eldridge, Troy Eldridge, Clarence Eldridge, and Dorothy Blake.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Mount Pisgah Christian Church with Bro. Jack Hinton officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m., until the hour of service at 11 a.m., Saturday at the church located at 7855 Bullfork Road, Morehead, KY, 40351.
